with having andi + mindy visiting i thought something new and different would be fun. we got tickets to go see fuerza bruta and it was pretty spectacular!!!
this past weekend was my annual trip down to the kennett square brewfest with eric, jens, amy & chris. as uaual we had such a great time and eric & jens were terrific hosts with delicious eats. i hope we keep up this tradition for years to come!!
last night i had the pleasure of venturing back over to brooklyn bowl. oh how i love this place .. you really couldn't ask for more in a venue/bowling ally/bar/restaurant except it maybe being cheaper but it's really not that bad. after work i met up with allie, chop, heather & mike to bowl a few games and also catch some live music.
the bands featured were A Big Yes & a small no, Matt Trowbridge, American Babies, Chris Harfod & the Band of Changes, and RANA

this is the view of the stage from the cozy couches @ our bowling lane, not too shabby!!
last sunday ivy and myself ventured up to astoria, queens to visit our friends denise & thomas. it was quite an adventure getting there. when i looked it up on hopstop.com it said ... distance traveled 10.1 miles / time traveled 1 hour 15 minutes
yes that's right, over an hour to travel 10 miles!! the reason for this is that there is not a direct or even semi-direct route between us and we ended up taking quite a few different trains .. one which was unexpected as we accidentally got on an express train and ended way north at the end of the line!! we finally made it to their house though and were welcomed with yummy veggies + dip, mimosa's, football watching and bunny oogling.
denise and thomas recently got a new pet by the name of buster, or BUSTER BUNNY!!! (explanation points a must) as i like to call him. he is absolutely precious and oh so soft. unfortunately i didn't take any pictures (crazy right?).
later denise took us to one of her favorite greek restaurants and we had a taste of everything. fun times with fun ladies !!!
this is old .. four years old to be exact, but i've seen prada marfa images in more than one spot lately so i finally looked it up to see what it was and find out if it was as dumb as it seemed.
in 2005, artist's artists elmgreen & dragset opened an art installation project called prada marfa. this piece was to be a prada boutique built on the outskirts of valentine, texas near marfa on sparse ranching land ... basically the middle of no where.
the artist's had to say that .... "As one drives toward the artwork it will appear to be a large minimalist sculpture, as one gets closer it will look like a luxury boutique where a display of Fall 2005 high-heel Pradashoes and bags will be seen through the store front windows... [It]blends into the exciting historical structures of the area in which it will be placed... As we purposefully will not preserve Prada Marfa, it will eventually become a ruin so that even in a future decayed state it will remain relevant to the time in which it was made..."
it's a bit of a poke at high fashion, which definitely deserves a tease now and again . . the images though are lovely.
german photographer, throsten brinkmann, yields self-portraits that turn the genre on it's head ...... they are odd and sometimes creepy but i find them to be quite lovely.
today was the long awaited and much acclaimed chicken dinner @ momofuku noodle bar. we actually had it as lunch because this specific dining event requires a reservation, they only do one chicken reservation every few hours and it takes a month or so to even get a reservation. so basically ... we took what we could get.
the fried chicken dinner includes two whole fried chickens, one southern style & one korean style. the dinner comes with mu shu pancakes, long spicey peppers, baby carrots, red ball radishes, shiso leaves, bibb lettuce, four sacues and an herb basket.
if that doesn't sound like enough, we also relished the epic pork buns as well as ..
-sautéed savoy cabbage with honey crisp apples, pork broth, togarashi- -nugget potatoes with benton’s bacon, poached egg, scallions- -pan roasted cauliflower with pesto, boquerones, kochu karu-
lunch was definitely an experience .. once in a lifetime i suppose because it's not really a repeat performance kind of meal. i look forward to returning to the noodle bar next month with some dear friends from out of town .. surely the flavors of david chang will knock their socks off!
team chicken members were allie carson, chris glushko, melissa trosterman, james craemer, and myself
a special thanks to allie & chop, you guys are the best !!!!!!
last sunday ivy and i had a fun day planned in the city and started things off with visiting the highline.
the highline was built in the 1930s, as part of a massive public-private infrastructure project called the west side improvement. it lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air. no trains have ran on it since 1980. today the highline has been turned into an elevated park.
after the highline we walked over to union square and had lunch in the park. the picture below is from union square. it was the most perfect day out!!
